The gum arabic is obtained from the acacia tree from which it exudes as a sticky secretion.
Chiefly gum arabic babul ki gond is used as a binder of the colour used in Indian miniature painting. Some miniature painters who paint with natural pigments usually use babul ki gond for most of the pigment even today.
