Courtyard in the Badi Mahal, City Palace
Udaipur, Rajasthan
The City Palace is situated on the bank of Lake Pichola. It was begun to be built by Udai Singh II (r. 1536-1527), Maharana of Mewar who established Udaipur as the new capital of Mewar state. The palace was extended by the successive rulers. The Badi Mahal was built by Maharana Amar Singh II (r. 1698-1710).
Mewar was governed by the Sisodia dynasty of Rajputs. Numerous miniature paintings were executed under the patronage of rulers and aristocrats.
