Purana Mahal

Purana Mahal is one of the palaces at large palace complex known as Deeg Bhawan. It was built by a Jat ruler of Bharatpur State, Thakur Badan Singh (r. 1722-1755). Later his successors, Maharaja Suraj Mal (r. 1755-1763) and Jawahar Singh (r.1763-1768) built various palaces, gardens and tanks there. Deeg was the first capital of the Jat kingdom established by Thakur Badan Singh and later the capital was shifted to Bharatpur.
